For a long time now, one of Firefox's main advantages has been its hugely popular add-on system. I've had my concerns regarding Firefox 4.0 add-on compatibility, but Lee says things are improving.
That said, I was very pleased to get an email from Mozilla this morning, announcing that they've made quite a few changes to the Collections feature on the add-on site.
An add-on collection is basically a simple, user-curated list of extensions. Up until today, collections have been public by default, and their URLs were not explicitly linked to their owners. For example, my own (sadly neglected) collection used to reside at https://addons.mozilla.org/collection/zukerlist, and it now resides under https://addons.mozilla.org/collections/ezuk/zukerlist/. (Note how they added my username to the path.)
But tweaking the path is actually the smallest change. Mozilla went ahead and added three AJAXy buttons next to each add-on. Clicking the "heart" button adds the add-on to a new, private default collection (the Favorites collection), which every addons.mozilla.org user now has. You can make your collection public if you wish.
The second button allows you to add the add-on to any other collection or create a new collection in a snap. The third button isn't strictly Collections-related; it lets you tweet the add-on or "share" it in a number of other "social" ways.
As per usual with such major changes, Mozilla has put together a video giving all the details.
